1 1/2 years out of GBS
26 year old woman
Introduction: At the time of surgery I was 24 weighed in at 420. I needed help bad! Obesity ran in my family but not in that high of # in weight.
Path: I had tried several diets, pills, I would lose a couple pounds here and there but not too much and I would gain it back. I had to fight with my insurance company for over a year to convince them that I was heavy enough plus they were telling me I was too young. They denied me 5 times on the sixth try I got approved. After writing a three page letter with doctor recommendation and pictures from the time I was born it was HELL.
Surgery: Well the surgery was on July 19th 2004, the best but worst day of my life. First I had open surgery, to be honest It hurt like a mofo no joke I was in PAIN, I spent 5 days in the hospital went home took off work for three weeks which I had to. I have healed great, feel good now I did have to get to use the gas pains, different noseys, movements etc... It took the longest time to see in myself I was losing weight. Other people saw it on me but even after losing over 150 lbs I couldn't see it on myself.
Post_Surgery: It's been a 1 1/2 years I still have about 50 lbs to lose and let me tell you it's hard getting these extra lbs. off, I have lose nasty skin every where I checked into getting it removed let's just say $20,000 for breast, thigh, stomach lift and under arm lift. Sad but I'm sure I'll never have all that done I can't get a load out for it and I'm looking to see if schools or doctors in training do that I haven't found any yet. Bummer!!!
Relationships: Would I recommend this surgery to others YES if you're truly over weight like myself when I was 24 over 420 lbs you have to want this for the right reason other wise it won't work. It's not an easy way out by any means and you still have to work your ass off after wards. LOL
Advice : Talk to as many people as you can before and after the surgery regarding the surgery and post-op I've meet a lot on new friends this way and their your support group/people who know what you're going thru. Not saying that other people aren't it's just they can't relate to you if they haven't gone thru it. Best of wishes to you if you're thinking about getting it done or if you've already had it done. I would be more than happy to talk to anyone with any questions. Please feel free to email me, ladellhilde@aol.com
